“Rodger clutched his wounded side and felt extremely thankful to whoever kept sending all these brave adventurers on quests to save him.

You see, usually it was only attractive damsels in distress or eligible princesses, whom adventurers bothered to risk their lives to rescue. (Rodger almost thought there was a cliche building).
Of course, people from all walks of life were captured and imprisoned in dungeons, each day. But it begged to natural reason that you had to be either rich, powerful or attractive (or better yet, all of the above!) to warrant a heroic rescue…

He gingerly stepped over the mangled corpse of a decapitated orc, as he followed behind the Barbarian and pondered to himself. If you were a lanky, beardy knight on the wrong side of middle-age, the odds were certainly against you here – Not really prime material to risk life and limb for, in a daring rescue-quest …
Perhaps this was that new “gendered equity” thingy he had heard about. Equal rights and an equal chance at getting saved; for hairy-knights and for fair-maidens, both!
‘Hmm, what progressive times we live in.’ he mused to himself as they approached daylight at the end of the passage.”
